Washing Machine Error Codes Explained: IFB, LG, Samsung and Bosch

An error code is the machine telling you what is wrong. Here is what the most common codes on IFB, LG, Samsung and Bosch machines mean, and which ones you can clear yourself.

An error code looks alarming, but it is actually helpful: the machine is telling you which part of the cycle failed. Many of them are caused by something simple.

Drain errors

LG OE, Samsung 5C or 5E, Bosch E18, IFB E2 — the machine could not pump the water out. Clean the drain filter and check the drain hose is not kinked. If the error comes back, the pump may have failed.

Water inlet errors

LG IE, Samsung 4C or 4E, Bosch E17, IFB E1 — not enough water came in. Check the tap is fully on and the inlet hose is not bent. Low water pressure in the building can also trigger it.

Most drain and inlet errors are caused by a blocked filter or a kinked hose.

Unbalanced load errors

LG UE, Samsung UB or UE, Bosch E32 — the load is lopsided. Spread the clothes out and try again.

Door errors

LG dE, Samsung DC or DE, IFB E3 — the door is not locking. Close it firmly; if the error stays, the door lock needs replacing.

Heating and electronic errors

Codes for the heater, the motor or the control board — such as LG tE or LE, Samsung HE — are rarely something you can clear yourself.
